I've recently picked up a major fetish for an old television show screened in the early 1990's "The Darling Buds Of May". I don't think many my age would know of this show, I certainly hadn't heard of it before my Grandma gave me the complete series. Set in the 1950's, England "The Darling Buds Of May" is a charming story about the simple yet not-so simple lives of farming family the Larkins, based on a novel. It's a sort of nonchalant, innocent humor watching the characters simply be who they are and living their lives unaware that they are ever so ridiculous. The whole time I'm watching my face is like this: ♥_♥ Not only are they adorable, they are superbly dressed! I'm particularly crushing on Catherine Zeta Jones in this show, she's absolutely gorgeous and wears the most beautiful 1950's styled outfits to match. I've taken some screen shots of the fashion in the show I believe worth sharing. Not the best quality I'm afraid, but you can see.. gorgeous! I'm very inspired by the modest look.
Mariette will often wear a dress more than once throughout the series but always slightly different. I adore this soft lime dress, especially the scallops and the way they continue around the back.
Other characters also wear fabulous things. The whole show is vintage galore, and you'll have to excuse the overload of screen shots, I'm a tad crazed! But these really are only a glimpse of many amazing outfits! I do strongly recommend "The Darling Buds Of May" for anyone who is a vintage fanatic, I can assure you will become addicted after the first episode :)
I know you wrote this a long time ago, but I feel the same way. In fact, it's part of the reason I sew. The fabrics and soft colors, the modesty and alluring beautiful clothes are so much more than the boring clothes of today. Likewise, I love the show too. Good to know there is someone else who loves it.
